Hi technos,

I have run into trouble with a PSS connector from Samtec. Before reflow it
is OK, can't see any cracks in all the parts I checked in the tubes, but I
get major cracking of the pins, randomly, after reflow. Please see the
picture at http://www.stevezeva.homestead.com/files/crackedpin.jpg, another
friendly support from Steve G.

What could cause that? It is an established product, we already built
thousands with no trouble. Could it be the reflow recipe causing this? Maybe
it was borderline and for some reason it is too hot now. It is not the
joint, but the actual pin that cracks. Actually, can the thermal excursion
give this?

Or is it some tension built in the pins from bending at the connector
manufacturing level, maybe the material was tempered somehow?

Any clue would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ioan
