Dave,
Resending, as I originally sent it from home via Blackberry and I have it set to screen out TechNet.

We are trying to get answers to your questions. If this stands as is, I will be willing to give a report in Minneapolis. I will of course leave out the name of the actual supplier, as per IPC rules.
Bev

Subject: Re: [TN] Short Solderability Time Limits

Hi Bev! I haven't seen or heard of such a development but we should pose
your question to the IPC/EIA/JEDEC solderability committee to see what type
of response we get back, It seems pretty apparent that the component
fabricator; a) hasn't a clue about what solderability is; 2) or understands
completely what solderability is but has elected to not use a solderable
finish. Either way, can you find an alternative component? Has the
component fabricator confused solderability with moisture sensitivity
requirements?

Dave

Technetters,
As if we didn't have enough problems with really, really old parts; part
numbers; moisture sensitivity; a few instances of stupid finishes as
suppliers go lead free; but now I have a new one - for me anyways. We have
received virgin parts where the label on the bag says they only have a
SOLDERABILITY LIFETIME of 168 hours after they are taken out of the bag!
This is not a case where one can recover them by putting them in an oven
afterwards! Anyone else seeing this new pain-in-the-neck development?
regards,
Bev Christian
