I am going to need to buy/build a tiny prism shaped mirror for an optical
encoder sub-system. It needs to be 10mm long and the cross section is a
right triangle with a 3mm base and a height of 2mm. The hypotenuse will be
"silvered" to reflect light from an IR LED. The mirror quality need not be
good enough to perform laser eye surgery, but should be good enough to "comb
your hair" in the reflection. It should be relatively cheap (10 cents? . .
. Less than 50 cents?) since I need to make several thousand assemblies.

It will live in a room temperature enclosed environment. I am planning to
glue the mirror to the PCB, next to the optical sensor. I am hoping "super
glue" will do the job.

I have had suggestions ranging from silvered injection molded plastic,
through machined chrome plated aluminum pieces. I have also considered
"gluing" polished .010" thick rectangles to plastic wedges. So far, I've
been unable to come up with something cheap. I was hoping to stumble across
surplus GI Joe Tiger Tank periscope prisms at the local surplus store (50
cents a pound, of course), but that hasn't happened . . .

Any suggestions on how to produce this item?

How about comments on my proposed attachment method?

Thanks,
Carl
