I've built LASER/fiber optic igniters for ordinance.
This is typically a pulse of LASER light which heats the explosives and BANG.
The distance is short and glass FO cable at single mode is the preferred method.
Any long distance power distribution would seem to be hard to accomplish. LASER power, infrared heating of the cable, photocell power conversion efficiency all make this technology pie in the sky.

Has anyone worked with or heard of a process for transmitting power over a
fiber-optic cable?
I believe the theory behind this is to transmit light over a cable and then
convert it to power via a photovoltaic cell or something similar.
I need to respond to a question on a proposal on this subject today.
