Michael,
We are using EPC 412-300 printer to print 32x6 mm paper labels, that carry
both printed data and barcode in two lines. Although the barcode lines are
short (2 mm) it is easily read by the laser readers SYMBOL LS4004.

We are attaching the labels after the reflow. We considered the use of
plastic heat-withstanding labels to mark the bare PCB, but since the SC has
no embedded barcode reader we decided to save the extra cost.

Subject: [TN] part marking

Can you post this please:

My company is presently still using a 2-part ink with various types of
stamps to mark part number, serial number, rev letter and source code on
printed wiring boards and assemblies. I am considering labels and or laser
marking alternatives to this primitive, messy and poor-quality process which
often requires more room than is available. This is also an opportunity to
introduce some bar coding technology for tracibility.

Can you reply with the label, laser or other process you are using to
successfully mark boards and assemblies? Please include manufacturer or
supplier information and your feel for how well you are being supported. I
am going to survey the market to take a first step to find a better
solution. Our boards do see reflow, wave solder, semi-aqueous wash, vapor
phase wash and various fluids and oils in the field which is a
high-reliability mil-avionics - type environment.

thank you,

Subject: [TN] Lets talk smocks

Good afternoon,

Now I know we've had some lively discussion regarding ESD smocks both pro
and con, but a question has been raised here that I don't recall seeing
asked.

What does the IPC say about the use of smocks?

Are they called out in any Specs?

And as a side question (watch out for the flood of answers) who makes a good
smock that is worth buying. Answers to this question may be sent offline.

Thanks in advance for your vast knowledge on this delicate subject.
