Got to be careful what you are removing with the desiccant- folks drying
Molecular Sieves have gotten some surprises when they use them to remove water
from alcohol containing fluorinated solvents. The 3 Angtrom sieves have 'holes'
that are just large enough for a water molecule, but the (cheaper) 4 and 5
Angtrom types have holes that will also remove low molecular weight alcohols
(methanol and ethanol). Drying 4 and 5 A sieves that have absorbed alcohol has
resulted in the 'flying oven door' phenomenon, which can be both quite spectacular
and damaging to the surroundings.... so if you are just removing water, the
accumulated posts are quite OK, but it does pay to ask exactly what is being
removed from the desiccant.
