Hi Designer's Council members,

Things have changed a lot since I used to consult hand tape artwork in the
late 70's and 80's. I have seen some formula's for quoting jobs as a
consultant and I am curious to know what labor rates are being charged by
other consultant PCB Designers.

We did quote boards based on the number of component leads or connections or
in the case of thru hole technology holes or pads. If I remember design and
tape back then was about $2.00 a hole to $2.50 a hole or component lead
based on the density of the board.

What are consultants getting paid to do consulting design work these days
and how are they quoting their jobs to be competitive?

I would expect to see differences across the country based on location and
type of board design. Also what software platform is being used would
probably come into play.

Anyone want to comment on their experiences or method of coming up with a
quote and break it down to its fundamental cost drivers?

By the way.. it's okay to comment to me directly instead of the open list. I
respect your discretion and will keep the information confidential if you so
wish.

Best regards,

Bill Brooks, CID
