The specific gravity (density) of copper is 8.2 gram per cubic centimeter, which equates to 4.73 ounces per cubic inch (I can post the detailed calculations if anyone would like). Thus, 1 ounce of copper would be 0.21142 cubic inches in volume.

1 ounce copper is defined as 1 square foot of copper sheet that weighs one ounce. A square inch of this sheet would weigh 0.006944 ounces.

Thus 1 ounce copper sheet would be 0.21142 in3/oz * 0.006944 oz/in2 = 0.001468 in or 1,468 uin.

Of course, the copper used is probably not the pure Cu which has a density of 8.2 g/cm3, so that actual thickness may be off somewhat from this calculation.

Hi All,

I got my boards back from our fab vendor (the ones that had the trace
thickness problem), and they sent the XRF measurements that they took. But they're in
microinches, is there some conversion that you do to convert that to copper weight?

Here's the measurements that I got:

       µin Cu
1. 170.9
2. 173.0
3. 170.1
4. 170.6

Thanks in advance!
