Royce-
I understand your concerns.
Often in CM houses stock room delivers kits or components that are with out
leaders and carrier tape. If the components are supplied by the customer
there is no telling what you will get so no matter how much education you
give it is of diminished returns and educating the customer where its $ not
functionality is an uphill road.

I do know some customers using the Siemens hand tool have mounted it to a
cart so they have an extra hand free to splice with. they just wheel the
cart up to the machine and splice away.
I have trouble with the thin paper like "brass" dulling the blade esp. if it
is a ground carbon steel blade.

Here are some sites I am aware of for splicing:

Subject: [TN] SMT tape leader splicing tools

I am in the search of a SMT tape splicing tool that I can use to splice
blank leader tape (cover and pocket tape) onto SMT component tape reels that
come from my stockroom without any extra tape. With larger dollar components
my stockroom will only issue exact quantities which when setting up feeders
(Fuji and Siemens) becomes a big issue.

I do have s Siemens splicing tool, which is "ok" but Fuji has advised
against using the brass (or whatever metal Siemens uses) on their machines
as it will dull the tape cutters quicker.

Is anyone using something they could recommend. Please keep in mind that
this tape splicing will be performed in the Stockroom prior to a kit being
released from the floor.

Thanks

Royce
