Steve: The short answer is yes, I would expect a call. Without getting into
a lot of detail we have certain board designs that cannot tolerate
soldermask, nomenclature ink or in this case epoxy glue covering adjacent
circuit traces. It defeats their functional purpose. This is not unique to
our products others use this same design technique. So, yes epoxy dots have
the potential to be a problem, the chances are fairly small they will wind
up in these locations but in could happen.

However knowing this going in I think it's partly our responsibility to
notify the CEM of this condition for that particular product and to review
the product during qualification testing. Once they are aware of this
requirement then I would expect a call whenever this condition occurred.

Subject: [TN] OEM expectations...

This is just a general question to OEM companies from a CEM point of view;
would you expect a call from your supplier if it was noticed by them, that
there were some component locations that are not installed, to ask if it was
okay to either print solder paste, or deposit epoxy at those locations even
if there was no component installed?

What if they stopped production until they got a answer from you? Would that
be okay?

Just wondering if I'm missing something...
