Since SARS originated in China, and the authorities there still haven't
managed to contain it or bring it under control, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan
and Vietnam are "off-limits" as destinations at present (at least to us
folks in Singapore). The number of cases being reported in China itself is
huge with dozens of hospitals reportedly being overwhelmed with them. Since
China has not been exactly pro-active about this outbreak, it's hard to be
able to judge the true extent of the problem there. Anyone going to any of
the above four countries has to declare it in advance and put themselves in
quarrantine for 10 days from the day that they return. If they're still OK
after that time, they haven't caught SARS and can return to work. On the
other hand ....

Personally, I'm taking discretion as being the better part of valour and
not going to any of these places for a while. It's bound to upet a great
many plans, but SARS has killed too many people already to risk spreading
it further around the globe, especially when we're told that "it won't go
away".. I would urge everyone to consider very carefully the necessity to
go to any of these areas until the WHO gives the 'all-clear'.

Subject: [TN] IPC/HKPCA call for participation 2003 International Printed
              Circuit & Electronics Assembly Fair

There is continued growth in the printed circuit boards and electronics
assembly industries in China despite the global economic uncertainties.
IPC and the Hong Kong Printed Circuit Association join forces to bring
you the 2003 International Printed Circuit & Electronics Assembly Fair-
the largest trade show of its kind in Southern China. Participating in
this event is a great way for you and your company to gain global
visibility in the industry.

The Show will be held on 17-19 Sept, 2003 at Guangzhou International
Convention and Exhibition Center and will bring in the international
strengths as more PCB manufacturers and electronic assembly companies
from all over the world. More than 300 exhibitors from mainly United
States, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China will showcase their
latest products in the Show. The organizers are expected to attract more
than 20,000 visitors from all over the world.

IPC's U.S. trade show technical conferences are highly regarded
throughout the world for their depth, breadth and non-commercialism.
Selection is highly competitive and reflects well on a company's
technical capabilities. Distribution of the conference proceedings to
over 1500 key engineers and managers provides excellent global exposure.

Presenters will find an excellent and receptive audience at this event.
Guangdong Province is China's "Silicon Valley". An estimated 70% of all
printed circuit boards manufactured in China are manufactured in
Guangdong Province. Guangdong has been China's foreign trade leader for
14 consecutive years. More specific to our industry, this province had
the highest output value for the electronic and information technology
industries in China in 2002, totaling $46.9 billion dollars. In short,
customers and knowledge leaders are here.

Go online to http://www.hkpca-ipc-show.org/english/visitor_pre.html for
complete information on presenting a workshop, tutorial or a paper in
the technical conference.

HKPCA and IPC are membership organizations dedicated to helping their
members successfully compete in the global economy. The importance of
satisfying customers and members is an imperative for these
organizations. All proceeds from the event will be put to initiatives
that help the industry and its growth.
