Again, good questions.

Processes and parameters vary from shop to shop...as with most
companies...the end results and do the product provided, meet or exceed
requirements do indeed factor into an audit...

Let me ask you, the board shop you visited...did they have solderability
problems? I would think if they ran all product using those process
parameters, resulting in 1 micron thick solder layer, either...they
continually provide product that does not meet requirements...or
solderability...or they may have it under control for their, and their
customers specific needs...

Where I am going with all this is preconcieved (and this is not proclaiming
anyone is doing this here) ideas, knowledge, education, how we did it there,
how they did it over there...should not fully factor into new audits of
board shops...each shop is different (in some respect) each shop may have
unique process parameters that result in excellent product and that should
be the focus of the audit...not against a pre-written process audit
checklist...not against how XYZ Company does it...etc etc
