Henry,
1. We're an OEM supplier.
2. The majority of our workmanship standards fall between class 2 and class
3 (with class 3 standards or tighter for the components most critical to the
function of the unit).
3. Although I wish we were, we aren't presently using DPMO calculations.
We track first pass yield (multiple defects on the same board equals one
reject).
4. Control limits are set at 2.5% for SMT and 3% for THT processing.
Hope this helps,
Leland Woodall

Subject: [TN] Defect rates.
I'm assuming that the members here on the IPC technet use IPC 610 to
classify and rate their smt and through-hole defects.
I just wanted to submit a quick query to find out a general "state of the
industry" to the following questions:
1. Are you an OEM or contractor or other?
2. Do you consider class 1, 2 or 3 defects (in IPC 610)?
3. Do you track defect rates in terms of DPMO?
4. What is your control limit for DPMO? <100? <50?
Thanks.
Henry J. Rekers
