I have had this happen several times. One of the worst for me was a change in a switch. The part we had been using had gold plated contacts and could be aqueous cleaned. The vendor told our purcaser that it was discontinued so the substituted a silver contacts without telling us. After a bunch of failures management decided ALL switches must be hand cleaned. Lots of extra time. The manuf. however tells me it is in production and in stock! Just our vendor does not stock it anymore.

Similar things happen to me before. One of the parts, based on the
in-correct information provide by OEM was replaced due to
"obsolescence"... End up the distribution channel want to cut the
original part due to low volume requirement (non stocking item...). It
cost a lot of engineering time to get the truth out and stop the
re-design on time...(was lucky). I guess it is "market driven" common
event now. Double check, triple check the infor! If someone tell you
the parts or item is obsolete.
