Grant,
Smoke is:
* in the short term - cause resistive bridging of electric circuit,
and
* in the long term - highly corrosive.

The cleaning is very complicated, as it is also sticky. If you can - trash
them. Otherwise - clean thoroughly with:
* first - solvents (IPA, etc.), then
*       with detergent, then
*       rinse, then
*       check cleanliness,
*       check thoroughly, including re-calibration.

If it is a product then its reliability will be low - let your customer know
(he will smell it anyway).

Subject: [TN] Smoke damage to electronic assemblies

'netters,

Can anyone offer advice on how to deal with smoke damaged assemblies wrt
possible damage and effects on reliability? Should it be trashed, cleaned up
etc? It appears that there may not have been any direct exposure to fire or
heat but certainly to smoke.

TIA
Grant
