Hi Mike,

We used to apply roller tin on flex circuits in the 1970's. There were two
rollers through which the circuit was passed. The bottom roller dipped into
molten solder. The molten solder was deposited onto the circuit as circuit
was squeezed between the two rollers. The process was quite variable and
hard to control as I remember. I haven't seen one of those since the late
'70s.

We also used a hydro-squeegee to level plated tin/lead. After that we began
using "reflow ovens" to fuse plated tin/lead. Next can hot air solder
leveling both horizontal and vertical; HASL was born.

Hi all,

Just a little stumped on terminology here, what is "Roller Tinning". What
is the specific differences between this method and HASL??? Are there any
specific pros/cons for the Roller method??? Any information would be
appreciated.

Cheers

Mike
