I ran into a major problem with paper when I was working in a shop, We used to do a test, we took freshly scrubbed copper and built a stack of it and the spacer paper, we then put rubber bands around it and put the whole thing in a humidity chamber ( 95F/95% rh) for 2-3 days , if we saw no corrosion, and if the copper wet when we solder dipped it , then we could use the paper. WE checked each shipment of paper once it was accepted( or lot if it had a lot number)

Just a little insight, I used a lot of different papers based on what the customer wanted, the best I ever found was plain old wax paper! it would keep the boards from sliding and marking the surface, left no residue except in very rare cases, and since the wax was soluble , and would melt, it would always come off in either a cleaner , or during assembly.

Rey,

In a pass life I had the opportunity to work in a PCB Fab house. We ran
across the same issue. We used a chemical free pink paper. I wish I
could give you more details but unable to recall them. Best of luck.

Victor,

Hello Technetters,

Good day,

Is there anyone out there who had experience/s in using ordinary bond paper
as spacer in finished PCB? We are using this type of paper and we think that
it contributes to contamination leading to bad wetting. Are there any
standard or qualification needed for papers being used as spacers? Anybody
had a study that support our theory?

THANKS
