The default setting in most mail programs is " reply to sender in format
sent" or something like that. So if we could just ask people to originate
their post unformatted, most people's responses will automatically be plain
text also.

Subject: [TN] HTML

The point with HTML postings, is that even if you have your mail reader set
to text only,
when one receives a HTML/RTF encoded post, what you see are pages of junk
like:

<br>
<br style=3D'mso-special-character:line-break'>
<![if !supportLineBreakNewLine]><br =
style=3D'mso-special-character:line-break'>
<![endif]><o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal style=3D'margin-bottom:12.0pt'><font size=3D2 =
face=3DArial><span
style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial'>Good =
afternoon,</span></font><font
color=3Dblack face=3DArial FAMILY=3DSANSSERIF><span =
style=3D'font-family:Arial;
color:black;background:white'><br>
<br>
</span></font><font size=3D2 color=3Dblack face=3DArial =
FAMILY=3DSANSSERIF><span
style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black;background:white=
'>Would
anyone be able to tell me where to find the &quot;chart&quot; that =
shows the

and on and on and on.....

The result is a file that's huge and unreadable. I'm reading with Lotus
Notes, unfortunately,
but the effect is independent of the mail reader.

I'm surprised that this mailserver allows HTML postings...most don't, as
they provide
very little value added, and multiplies the size of the file several times
over, which
just slows things down at ever step of the delivery process.

And no, I don't have too much time on my hands, thank you!
:-)

Rgds
John
