How quickly does gold tarnish? If you're lucky enough to find a gold nugget,
just think as you bank it that it has actually been knocking around the
planet for a few million years in all sorts of conditions and still is
bright and shiny, so I guess it will be OK on edge connectors:)
The underlying metals are possibly a concern in this context but you are
still looking at years.
Major concerns in a few weeks timescale therefore are, not tarnish, but
possible surface contamination (grease from handling and such like.)

Subject: [TN] Gold Tarnish.

Greetings Mighty Techneters.

Under normal environmental conditions, (As in no special effort is being
made to create and maintain a particular controlled environment) how long
will it take for Gold (gold fingers) to tarnish or show evidence of
oxidation?

I am not considering any extremes in temperature and or humidity. Just on a
shelf at an assembly house.

I know how to clean them up, but someone asked me and I didn't have any
range of responses to offer.

Thank you,

Steve M.
