Depends on power, frequency and time in the ultrasonic (and if the unit is cavitating). Not knowing any of the above or the bonding material I would guess five minutes. Probably can't do more than clean the part and maybe lift the edges
I had an operator remove red Oxide coating from some circuit board layers (by mistake) once. Took forty minutes at a frequency of 40,000 (cavitation was there).

You probably can't do more than clean the part and maybe lift the edges a little at most. If you do more find a new source for the heatsink bonding (especially if the bond material is epoxy or flex circuit resin.

Subject: [TN] Ultrasonic Cleaning of Black Anodized Parts?

Just came across an in-house spec that calls for some metal components that have a
black anodized coating to be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner prior to assembly. We are currently
NOT doing that, but, I suspect if we do, the bond between the component and the coating will
break down.

Before I test one and scrap it, are there any opinions (professional or otherwise?)

-Carrie

P.S. I don't have the specifics on the coating or the cleaning (ex: energy, time, etc.), but, just
looking for a general opinion.
