This request is cross posted to Compliance net and lead free.
I would appreciate the collective wisdom and thoughts on the following
question which was raised to me this week.
The EU End of Life for Vehicles Directive (2000/53/EC), Annex II, as revised
in decision 2002/525/EC, item #11 under "lead and lead compounds in
components" states - "solder in electronic circuit boards and other electric
applications" are exempt from the restriction of Article 4(2)(a).
Can it be interpreted that connectors and terminals that have a 60/40
tin/lead plating used in electrical harnesses but are crimped to wires
carrying current as exempt per this statement?
It seems clear that if these connectors were soldered, it would be an exempt
use, however can that exemption be carried over when they are mechanically
crimped rather than soldered?
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.
