Yes we use these and no two are the same at the notched settings marked on the tool. We have not seen any that are radically off but to a half notch or so. We do reference a setting in our assembly instructions more of a starting point. The operator is still responsible to check the first ty wraps installed to confirm the ty wrap is not loose or too tight so the wire bundle is getting displaced and to make the necessary adjustments. We find that most operators who use these has one that they pretty much exclusively uses so the operator becomes very familiar with the tool and this isn't really an issue. You could perform a GR&R to confirm this.
I haven't done this mainly because it hasn't been a problem, and from what I see the operators are trained sufficiently to distinguish acceptance.
So to me it ain't broke and it don't need fixin.
