hi,

i suggest you take a look at this url:

http://www.grapestompers.com/articles/hydrometer_use.htm

this is better than a chemistry lab handbook, because the subject matter is more interesting.

there are many ways to check out your hydrometers. it appears that you have no experience with hydrometers at all, so i suggest that you find a calibration lab to do that for you.

specific gravity is affected by temperature, so you either have to bring your sample to a standard temeperature or have a correction chart for the material you are using. i imagine that the samples you want to measure are plating solutions. you may be able to get temperature correction charts from the supplier of your plating chemicals.

by the way, you can't trust the aussie calibration labs, because they use fosters for their standards.

bon chance,

phil

Subject: [TN] Hydrometer calibrations

We would like to have any suggestions or information as follows:
1. How to calibrate our hydrometers, are there any other ways to calibrate the hydrometers?
2. How do we measure the liquid lighter than water and liquid heavier than water
3. Our hydrometers ranged from 0.600 to 1.800 with a number of 19 pieces
4. Is there any environment condition requirements to calibration
5. Can we use standard hydrometer to compare with others
we would greatly appreciate what you can provide us with valuable information related to calibration of hydrometers
Thanks! Have a nice day!

sincerely

Jack Low
