Hi Roger,
My copy of IPC-6012 says "coverage and solderable" ( I don't have the J-STD
in front of me.) So like all things that may be a moot point. But two things
bother me more. 1) Every procurment doc I ever received from my customers
state similar requirements to yours and 2) Shouldn't they default to the
Customer s(aka: Your) specification (or better), particulalrly when it is
that reasonable? Why can't they put on more than half a mil?
Steve

Subject: [TN] Minimum Acceptable Solder Coverage on PCB
> Greetings and Felicitations!

> We currently specify a finished solder coverage for pcbs using HASL of
.0003" to .002". A vendor has stated that (according to IPC-6012, which
refers to J-STD-003) for HASL the range in solder coverage is .00005" to
.0001". I was under the impression that anything under .0001" was not good
due to the intermetallics from a previous TechNet discussion. Help!!!
