Richard,

If you specify a plating thickness for PTH holes, that thickness will apply
across the whole board, as I'm sure you realise, unless you opt for
selective plating, which is more expensive. Plating thickness, or rather
x-sectional area, should be designed to cater for your current carrying
requirements, plus remember that plated holes have a capacitance effect, so
you have to ensure that your clearances between the hole and the adjacent
copper features in enough to prevent interference.

Have you sectioned any of the boards that are giving you trouble to assure
yourselves that you're not suffering from drill smear and/or poor plating
connection to the ground plane?

2 cents worth (all I can afford after the Christmas shopping).

Peter

Hi everyone
Can anyone tell me what the recommended thickness of the barrels of PTH's
is?
We have a minor problem with 0.4mm dia. barrels not giving good ground from
top of board to ground plane on underside.
Boards are double sided PTFE / copper track / Emersion tin RF boards.
