Hello Technetters,

I certainly hope that there are people that had faced the same problem as I
am standing in front of right now.
I managed (after a lot of discussions) to convince design department to
start developing PCBs that are exclusively SMD mounted. No problems there
until they needed modular jack that has 6 to 10 circuits and is fully
shielded.
Ofcourse they discovered an alternative that is impossible to reflow.
(Stewart - http://www.stewartconnector.com/drawings/CT750017.pdf ).
Oki.. Not a designer fault this time. Stewart has a problem with this
specific product and the circuit contacts are .14 millimeters above pad
surface and there is no chance we can get a good solder joint there.
Experimenting with a thicker stencil is not an option.
Our distributor talked to Stewart and they said that they are aware of the
problem but are not going to do anything about it now.
I would like to replace Stewart connector with something that is possible
to reflow. Have been looking at Molex, FCI and Kycon alternatives but the
problem there is that they don’t have connectors with 10 circuits. I need a
connector series that has 6 –10 circuits and is equivalent or better than
Stewart alternative.
Volume is 30-40K/Year.
Thnx…
