Don't know your application, but why not use ZIF (Zero Insertion Force)
sockets. IC's just pop into the sockets and are then locked in place by a
lever-activated clamping system that acts on each pin. The clamping
mechanicsm in well designed sockets also serve to pull the pins further
into the socket, thus ensuring that everything is sitting down tight.

                      Some one at our facility raised a question about PGA
placement.  Is there a tool to install PGAs in sockets? This is to
ascertain
that the PGAs are seated all the way down in the sockets. Normally the PGAs
are pushed down using the thumbs everywhere I have worked.
