Good Afternoon,

Today we are faced with a cleaning problem. We have circuit boards (PTH) that have been submerged in Shell Diala AX oil (see the "Shell Diala PDF" on Steve Gregory's page http://www.stevezeva.homestead.com/. Thanks Steve). These boards have some kind of black crud (dust or residue from sand casting of tank assembly we think) as-well-as the oil on them. We are looking into several options to remove the oil and crud, which I will list.

1. Pressure wash the boards with clean oil to hopefully flush off the old dirty oil. The concern here is volume of oil used and the possibility of driving crud under components... causing a bigger problem.

2. Pressure wash the boards with water/detergent mix to hopefully wash off the old dirty oil, then rinse followed by a wash cycle in our DI batch wash system. The concern here is waste water disposal and the possibility of driving crud under components... causing a bigger problem

3. Wash in an ultrasonic cleaning system with an Armakleen/Water mix, rinse with clean water followed by a wash cycle in our DI batch wash system. The concern here is waste water disposal.

4. Wash in an ultrasonic cleaning system using clean oil as the cleaning medium. The concern here is the crud coming off the boards making the "wash oil" dirty quickly and becoming a volume disposal issue.

5. Wash/soak the boards in alcohol to cut the oil, allow to dry then wash by a wash cycle in our DI batch wash system. The concern here is large quantity of alcohol, evaporation and flammability.

6. Farm the cleaning out to a contract house with a cleaning system with available capacity. Prefereable in eastern Massachussetts.

Anybody want to offer their two cents on a solution?

Thanks in advance.
