Joe,

as a former Software Development Engineer for Sanmina-SCI in charge of
program generation of the Agilent 5DX, it (the 5DX) uses ball diameter to
determine correct ball collapse parameters. The standoff height will, of
course, be determined by weight of substrate (versus mass and surface
tension of balls) also whether you're using eutectic or non-eutectic
alloys, etc. I wouldn't worry about standoff height unless you're dealing
with possible ball shorts or getting close to it. If you can get a good
xray image capture, the diameter should be enough. I tried getting onto
Agilent's website to get the ASAP best practices literature, but my logon
is toast. These "best practices" give baseline readings to set your initial
program to so further tweaking is minimized. I was looking to get the base
BGA diameter settings.
Good luck!
