Following KAY's answer about recycling not being an alternative to ban in
WEEE/ROHS (unfortunately ,and contrary to any economical and ecological
logic...),I want to stress that according to ROHS/WEEE automotive
electronics are not in the SCOPE of these 2 directives except for
telecommunication and audio/video on board equipments.

BUT automotive electronics is concerned by the EOLV( End Of Life Vehicle
directive) where lead is banned EXCEPT LEAD IN ELECTRONIC SOLDERING .
This derogation can be amended by a review of a technical committee under
the Commission's responsibility ; recently an amendment stated that, over a
lead content of 60g/vehicle in electrical/electronic solder+glass or
ceramix matrix (except bulbs)...!!!,the parts must be labelled to allow
SEPARATE dismantling .
this amendment was inspired by a japanese regulation and will lead to some
lead substitution.

SORRY guys for the complexity of our "old continent" texts where wisdom of
efficacy has sometimes disappeared.
