My method is very "stone-age". I put a 0.012" to 0.015" diameter drill bit
in a pin vice and drill the hole from the back side of the board, by hand,
until I penetrate the micro-BGA ball-pad. It requires a steady hand, time
and patience. The termocouple is secured with high temp SN10PB88AG02
solder. I use a 0.005" thermocouple, e.g., (Omega 5SC-TT-K-36-36). They
also sell the solder. I hope this helps. Also, you need several of the
little drill bits because they're very easy to break. You can probably use
a slightly larger drill bit if your BGA ball is larger.

While I'm no expert in BGA replacement, this has worked for me with our
Conceptronic in profiling for BGA's and micro-BGA's.
