In a previous life we required the color blindness test as well as a hand -
eye dexterity check. We have no such vision requirements for SMT inspection
or TH insertion currently.

You may recall the initial NASA  HDBK 5300  required all inspectors and
operators to  have vision tested including color blindness tests.

IPC does not require this that I am aware of.  Corrected vision is really a
good thing both from a company and personnel stand point.

As a part of the  Training and Certification  you could as a company policy
require
eye exams.  After all, you have to take an eye exam for a drivers license,
std of commercial.
