To answer Brian's question, the string is 8.3 cm long. Have it right here
in front of me.

Brian's listing of parameters is a good one for consideration. I suggest
that you contact the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in the UK. In the
late 80s or early 90s, they did an extensive amount of research on what
frequencies and power levels could be used for ultrasonic cleaning. I
think it was done by Dr. Colin Lea or by Peter Foote. Dr. Chris Hunt or
Alan Brewin may be able to guide you to the test reports generated. Those
reports were used to convince some of the more stubborn military types that
ultrasonic cleaning could be used safely. Try http://www.npl.co.uk/.

How long is a piece of string? U/S cleaning can be effective or it may
be a simple waste of time and money or it may destroy some components.
Take your pick.

What is your cleaning medium? Is it degassed? Is it filtered or does it
contain particulate matter? What is the type of transducer? What is the
power input? What is the size of tank? What is the temperature? How far
are the assemblies from the transducers? How are the assemblies oriented
with respect to the transducers? What are you cleaning off from the
assemblies? What is the smallest interstice from which you wish to
remove contaminants? What are the dimensions and topography of the
interstices? etc.

Sorry!
