Interestingly a number of people ask for lead free even though they already
know that they are excluded from the need to use, either by the >85% waiver
or application. This is due to a marketing requirement......

Regards

Mike

Benny

The latest draft of the RoHS directive (8 November) lists in its annex the
following exemptions to article 4:

"Lead in high melting temperature solders (i.e. tin-lead solder alloys
containing more than 85% Pb)"

I'm not sure if this answers you question.

Interestingly, the same list of exemptions also includes...

"Lead in glass of cathode ray tubes, electronic components and fluorescent
tubes."

... which, depending on your interpretation of the words, could excuse all
electronic components and not just those which contain glass, which is what
I think the statement is referring to.

Kind regards

How about options for soft solder die attach in power package? A substitute
compatible to high Pb solder is yet to be found. But I know that SnSb could
be one choice. Will there be any waiver in this area?

I know this is probably way from what you were looking for, but there is
always Au/Sn - 280C, Au/Ge - 353C, or Au/Si - 373C ... just to name a few.

They work great in hybrids (multichip modules)!
