Hi Peter,
Omega Engineering has had 1-mil-diameter T/Cs for a long time--and they are
cheaper than $140. Those thin T/Cs are not easy to work with.
Actually, the problem with T/Cs is not that they may act as heatsinks, but
actually conduct heat to the T/C junction. That is why running them through a
hole in the PCB rather than glued down to the PCB surface--typically the
hottest place for the assembly during reflow--is the better choice. The T/C
junction being in contact with the solder makes excellent contact, because it
is solder-attached.
