A follow up to a query of a few months ago.

The PPM or DPMO project the SMART Group has been running since May is now on
line at www.ppm-monitoring.com or if you like www.dpmo-monitoring.com. The
SMART Group launched the site at Nepcon Electronics this week with support
from the DTI, Department of Trade and Industry. We are looking to increase
the number of contributing companies to the project and hope we can continue
to work with IPC, NEMI, SMTA and other industry group for the common good of
our industry.

Jack Crawford queried the use of the term "PPM", but rest assured that the
numbers are DPMO as per IPC-7912. There are some overview stats on the site
available to all (how do you compare?!), and more detailed numbers available
to companies participating. Obviously, the more companies submitting data
(all confidential), the more meaningful the stats will be.

Regards,
Peter

One of our Quality Managers has asked me to quiz the TechNet for
information on solder defect rates. We think we are pretty good and want to
compare against others in the industry. He has asked for rates for hand
soldering and also machine (automatic) soldering. We deal in two basic
product lines; IR products and Space/Communications.

Any information regarding solder defect rates in the hand soldering and or
automatic soldering areas would be appreciated.

  Thank you.
