Francis,
A company I support has been using Immersion Silver for at least a couple
of years. We had to tighten packaging, handling and storage practices. Our
results have been excellent. We did not have to change profile parameters,
solder paste, flux etc. The types of boards being processed are approx. 9" x
17". Typically having 12 to 16 BGA's, fine pitch, etc.. Double sided, mixed
technology assemblies.
Gloves should be worn when handling the boards. The finish is susceptible to
oxidation/tarnishing, if not stored in a moisture free environment. The
boards should be vacuum sealed with sulfur free paper placed between boards.
The recommended shelf life of the finish is 6 months. Our biggest issue was
getting consigned material from customers who violated these practices.

Subject: [TN] Sterling silver finish

Hello Technet,

We were approached by our board shop to have some of our boards finished
with Immersion silver.
I hope that someone can provide me, off-line if required, their experiences
with it, be it positive or negative.
Do I have to change my process? thermal profile, solderpaste, flux, etc

Here are the selling points:

Very flat finish, great for QFPs, MBGAs, 402 packages.
No nickel therefore, no embrittlement or black pad issues.

Ay feedback is appreciated. TIA

Regards;
