your definition is correct. there are no tolerances associated with a nominal dimension. it's just used for general identification purposes.

Susan,
I've always intrepreted nominal to mean a design value with no tolerance.
An example would be referring to .062 and .059 laminates as one-sixteenth
inch nominal.

What does it mean when a drawing lists a dielectric
thickness between layers on a multilayer as "nominal"?
I am used to seeing minimums and maximums, but really
do not know how to determine compliance if the value is
listed as "nominal".
