Hi Susan,

Nominal is the target dimension. Assuming a perfect world, all the
dimension would measure exactly the nominal dimension. Somewhere else on
that drawing the designer listed a tolerance, which is how much that
dimension can vary from the nominal or target. If you add the tolerance to
the nominal or subtract the tolerance from the nominal, you will get the
maximum and minimum dimensions.

Subject: [TN] DRAWING NOMINAL

What does it mean when a drawing lists a dielectric
thickness between layers on a multilayer as "nominal"?

I am used to seeing minimums and maximums, but really
do not know how to determine compliance if the value is
listed as "nominal".

Thanks
Susan Mansilla
