Now using one now, but have used one at another job.
We used it for both, though profile verification is indirect see below.

1. Pro - measures characteristics of the wave quickly and easily.

2. Pro - measures the temperature of the preheat on a coupon attached to
the machine at the same time other measurements are being made.

3. Con - have heard that resolution of measurements may not be precice
enough to properly characterize the wave . . . I tend not to agree with
this assement of the tool.

4. Con - does not measure the machine setup in the configuration that it
will be used. (The tool is on a pallet that probably is not the same
size as your board.) Perhaps a valid point but neither does a glass
plate.

5. Does not measure the temperature of the board you are setting up to
solder. True, but if you profile the board then benchmark the system
with the tool it will tell you that the coupon profile was the same for
a given machine recipie.

6. The coupon is fragile and expensive. True.

7. Calibration of the tool is expensive. True.
