I too have heard of dishwasher detergent being used. I would certainly test a few scrap boards first. The chlorine in the detergent may tarnish the solder with too long exposure. I would also do some sort of cleanliness testing to make sure all of the chlorine is removed as well as the alkali. Diswasher detergent is pretty much those two things unless it has that " sheeting action " for " spot free drying " not sure what that is chemically but I believe it may be silicone. Not a good thing to leave on the board.

Subject: [TN] Post HASL cleaning solution

Hi All,
We're seeking a cleaning solution for our post cleaner, which is used after
HASL. Our flux is "100% water reducible". The many products available have
me somewhat confused: (Solvent vs. aqueous vs semi-aqueous) (defluxer vs
cleaner) (saponifiers) (flux residue & activator removal) (ionic
contamination removal).

Then a supplier told me that many of his accounts simply use store-bought
dishwasher detergent for HASL postclean.

I like this "simple solution" (literally), but I'd appreciate some TechNet
feedback on the subject- on or off-line.

Thanks,
Mark Hargreaves
