A "just in passing": WD40 is quite acid, it probably would make quite a good
flux.

Probably nothing. Several years ago I was tasked with finding what the "
contamination" was that was causing some " dewetting" both on solder and
conformal coat. I purposely applied differnt possible contminants to marked
sections of a large board. The area sprayed with WD-40 soldered fine with
RMA flux. This was on HASL boards so I doubt you will have much trouble with
gold. A run through whatever cleaning process you use should be sufficient

over. Now, we want to clean it up and assy. it.
