Got burned recently by a supplier. The manner in which we got burnt was the supplier was a broker. So the OEM wouldn't help at all because brokers are not typically authorized dealers. The authorized dealers do receive training (at least supposed to). I also came to realize that most OEM's have the sensitivity information readily at hand but I found a large OEM in Japan that took 5 weeks to answer the question of their parts.
We defined our process to look at the design/definement stages but then also confirm in receiving when the parts are received. Any discrepancies are being questioned. It was about the only way I could double check this. We also removed all brokers from purchasing use except with prior approval.
Hope this helps. If there are any component guys out there, what is your part of the industry doing about the identification and requalification process? How does a part previously sensitive become unsensitive without any thermal changes in the part function?
