Hi, Gregg,

The most commonly used coating in my (aerospace) industry experience is
Humiseal 1B31 - an acrylic coating that is quite easily removed with IPA,
Forraine or any number of proprietary strippers. My only concern with
stripping the stuff has to do with the fact that it is typically thinned,
and in its thinned state it is very prone to wicking up under masking and
contaminating the very places you're trying to protect - like connector
socket contacts.

So, you have to be very particular about masking off areas you don't want
coating to get at, adn have a very conscientious operator who will take
special care not to let strippping agent get too near the masked areas,
even though they are masked.

Also, whe coating the board in the first place, make sure you follow the
cleanliness levels required for the board before you spray, or the coating
won't stick as well as it should (apart from trapping extra contaminants
underneath.

Peter

Subject: [TN] Strip-able conformal coating experiences

Hello technet,

I'm looking for user experiences, pro and con, with strip-able conformal
coatings. I assume that means we'd be talking about an acrylic (type AR)
coating. I need a requirement for a removable conformal coat for one of
our products. We would spray apply this coating.

We presently use an urethane coating that has excellent chemical and
environmental resistance but unfortunately can't be readily stripped.

Thanks.
