Subject: [TN] Qualification of In-line clearner

Technet,

I am looking for guidelines in commissioning a new in-line cleaner and
process (for no clean and OA).

What are some of the critical items to be considered?

I have the followings:
1) Visual inspection for residues (noclean)
2) Ionograph results (OA). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND RUNNING AN "UMPIRE BOARD"
DEVELOPED BY CONTAMINATION STUDIES LABORATORY (CSL) ON ALL OF THE CLEANERS
YOU ARE CONSIDERING. THE UMPIRE BOARD IS THEN TESTED BY CSL USING ION
CHROMATOGRAPHY (IC) AND SURFACE INSULATION RESISTANCE (SIR). DO THIS IN
LIEU OF THE IONOGRAPH.
3) All seals and materials must be compatible with our Chemistries
4) Performance of dryer section- Not sure how to measure yet. WEIGH (SCALE
THAT CAN MEASURE DOWN TO .001g) AN ASSEMBLED BOARD PRIOR TO CLEANING,
PROCESS THROUGH CLEANER, AND RE-WEIGH. MEASURE THE DELTA IN WEIGHT
(USUALLY, CONNECTORS RETAIN ENOUGH WATER TO BE MEASURED).
5) Does not remove solder mask
6) CSA certifiable
7) Sound levels must be 80 dBA or lower at exit
8) Leakage from exhaust
9) Chemical smell?
10) Cleanliness under fine pitch devices or BGAs??
11) Drag out rate and chemical loss?

how to measure 9) to 11).

Rgds,
Peter
