That is why we wrote IPC-D-279, so adequate reliability can be assured from
the design--
Design for Reliability [DfR]; or if that is not possible, that replacement
schedules can be established.
For 'underhood' electronics, I do not think 10 year/100,00 mile reliability
is possible. I think the Delco people arrived at the same conclusion--their
modules are easily replaced, jusy 1 nut and 1 connector. Replacing
'underhood' electronics will simply have to be part of your routine
maintenance schedules.
