Hi Carrie! Just a word of caution on what chemistry you select for cleaning
the aluminum - anodized and chromated (e.g. chemical conversion coatings)
finishes can be damaged depending on the temperature/chemistry combination
you use. There are plenty of industry papers documenting the detrimental
impact of temperatures above 150F in combination with high pH cleaning
chemistries. I recommend you specification ask the potential chemistry
suppliers what the impact on the anodized and/or chromated coating could
be. Good Luck.

Subject: [TN] Cleaning Aluminum

I am looking for a cleaning solution to be used in conjunction with our
Ultrasonic cleaner that will
remove organics (such as finger oils) from machined aluminum parts. Some
of the parts are
straight aluminum (untreated), some are clear anodized, and some are clear
chromated.
Preferably, I'd like to find one cleaner to fit all.

We are currently using Branson's MC-3 which is far too harsh and has
resulted in aluminum
oxide deposits and/or tarnishing even after repeated attempts to decrease
time and dilution
per the mfr's recommendation.

At this point I'm ready to use some Joy Dishwashing detergent, but, would
rather use a product
designed for industrial use that cost 100 times more so the customer's
perception of our
cleaning process will be enhanced :)

Due to the nature of the product these parts go onto, "cleanliness" cannot
be determined until
after an entire unit is built and tested. Therefore, I'm simply looking
for companies that sell cleaners that
are intended to remove organics and I'll have to build samples and have
them tested at the customer site.
(oh what fun!)

Thanks,
Carrie
