Hi, Efendy,

You don't say what you want to covert the data to, but I'm guessing that
it's to a file that can be used for programming Pick and Place machines. I
had that trouble as well for a while, as my CEM couldn't read all the files
we sent them. Some of the files came from PADS, some from Mentor, some from
Cadence. Most routing packages should be able to output a "Neutral" file,
which is a text file that lists, amongst netlists and other stuff, the x-y
positions and orientations of all component body centres on a board. If you
don't have this, get back to your router and ask for it. Just before the
Gerber data is generated by the routing package, there is a range of
options you can select from depending on what you want to include in the
Gerber output. The x-y data is usually one such option. I found it was a
standard output only from Mentor - for the other routing packages, this
data had to be requested specially.

The Neutral file is a text file, as mentioned, with a fixed-pitch font
(e.g. Courier), and each piece of data is held in a pre-fixed column that
P&P machines should be able to read (so be careful if you're editing it
manually). Once upon a time, though, I had to edit the Neutral file for my
CEM, to remove everything except the Component Body Centre x-y data, and
convert the result to an Excel spreadsheet. This was a pain to do, but they
eventually found a way to solve the problem and use the neutral file data
directly.

Doesn't help you with finding other software to convert/extract the data,
but may be some use.

Peter

Hello people,

Anybody knows what software to convert XY position data from Gerber
file? Please let me know. Thanks.

Efendy
