They 'belong' to IPC, because IPC is a representation of members' interest.
IPC is a non-profit organization. All the earnings from documents and
standards, and other activities go back into the organization to provide
value-adding services for the members. That is why IPC publishes standards
as needed by the industry, even if some standards are only sold to a
handful of people. If you read the latest IPC Review, you can find out for
yourselves the cost involved in making these standards.

Mr. Moon Man, you are right in 'complementing' IPC's standards. IPC does
not have a DFM document yet. From the response that you get, it is clear
that you are making something that the industry needs. IMHO, you could
either go for the money - investment some money to create some pictures or
license the graphics from IPC, and publish your book as hardcover, sell it
in all major bookstores in the world; or you could go for the fame -
discuss with IPC and work out a deal to publish your materials as a
industry consensus guideline. This way, you may be able to make your book
even better, and help more people. What do you think?

And just think...the time and work that generated those tables and
illustrations were based on the support of member companies of this
industry
at a cost to the participating companies. As I think about it, how does
anything "belong" to the IPC? Hmmmmm....
