Colin,

How much heat you moving?  Does thermal resistance at the heatsink junction
have to stay low, or extremely low.  If you have to move a lot of heat,
Chomerics has a process called Power Site that allows you to solder your
device directly to the heatsink (see
http://www.parker.com/chomerics/products/documents/powersite_cat.pdf.).
Have you investigated thermally conductive adhesive tape?  They don't have
the mess of the thermal adhesives and they are repairable.  Check out 3M
http://www.3m.com/us/mfg_industrial/adhesives/html/tc_selector.jhtml or
Bergquist http://www.bergquistcompany.com/therm.htm, they might give you
some thermal management ideas.
